Re: 2008 Fall Board Meeting in Las Vegas, NV

Debbie:
Have you sent this very same message/question over the RVP online
"discuss?" The big problem is the inconsistency with which this problem is
handled
region by region. In today's world, if there is a desire to have RVPs
involved on a national level, so help has to be offered or 1) no one will want
the
job, and/or 2) it will continues as it is now in many regions, those who take
the position will only attend meetings if they are comfortably affluent.
These meetings cost money, no matter how you slice it. If Regions take
the holier-than-thou attitude that someone shouldn't take the RVP position
unless they can afford this large financial outlay every year during their
tenure,
the nature of the Society's governing structure will be changed -- won't it?
It is in both the Society's and the Region's best interest that the
Region's chief officer (or a suitable representative) attend the two annual
national meetings. If it is desired that the society represent the
membership,
then representatives of the membership divisions (Regions) should be in
attendance to make known their preferences. Without out that participation
the
accusation that the national governing body is disconnected from the
membership
becomes a reality.
See what responses you get to your question by posting it on the RVP
online list. Regardless, go to your region and state the valid case for RVP
travel assistance
Best Wishes,
          Jeanne
