Re: Motion to approve Calendar Guidelines
I think all good but on number 14 I still like reblooming irises be depicted in September and October if possible. In the future I'll try to take pictures of irises blooming in the fall too.

This appears to be a good adaptation of the Calendar Criteria committee's
recommendations.

Subject: [AISdiscuss] Motion to approve Calendar Guidelines
Michelle Snyder moved and John Jones seconded the below motion. As such,
it is now out for discussion.
Michelle
"AIS CALENDAR GUIDELINES
1. The Calendar committee should consist of a chairman appointed by the
AIS president and a minimum of three other members, one of whom is a member
of the AIS Board (officer or director) and one of whom is the Manager of the
AIS Storefront. Additional committee members may be added at the
discretion of the committee chair.
2. Quotes are to be obtained from the printer no later than October 15th.
Right now we are using Sundance Press but in the future it may change. It
must be submitted by the AIS Storefront manager at the fall Board of
Directorbs meeting the year prior to the calendar going to press.
3. Drafting of the calendar is to begin November and finished mid December
to be sent to printers no later than February 1st. The calendars must be
in the hands of the AIS Storefront no later than March 1st of any given
year. (AIS Storefront manager has many places he must send the front image of
the calendar to in the month of December.)
4. All picture candidates for the Calendar should be reviewed by the
entire committee.
5. All photos used are to have supporting copyright approval from
photographer if not already provided.
6. All pictures must be about the Genus Iris family and may be from any
time frame or year.
7. Any photo may be changed for selection decision and appropriateness.
8. Candidate pictures must be original work and may be made by anyone, but
preference should be for submittals by AIS Photo Contest; then AIS member
submissions if/when appropriate.
9. Subject matter must be high resolution of 300 dpi as required by the
printing industry.
10. The Iris subject depicted must be free of damage, with no visible
tears (even if natural), holes, disease, etc., in focus (considering depth of
field) with the exception in an bartisticb category.
11. Scenic photos, garden photos, natural setting or field photos shall be
considered per calendar issue but not to be overly used. (Garden pictures
often have other flowers as well as irises. Companion plantings are of
great interest to a lot of gardeners. As long as pictures are predominantly
about Irises they should be acceptable for the calendar.)
12. Close up shots may be considered but not recommended.
13. Any named varieties currently in the AIS Awards process are not
acceptable. (AIS is neutral regarding the AIS Award candidates and we do not
provide free varietal promotion.)
14. It is recommended that the month of September depict Reblooming Irises.
15. The Calendar Committee should strive for balance between Iris types to
showcase our Iris diversity.
16. The proposed contract for printing will be submitted/approved at the
Fall Board meeting. The Calendar Chair is delegated to sign the approved
contract for printing.
17. The Calendar committee is the final approving authority for the
calendar.
18. The funds for printing were provided by the Greater Portland Iris
Society and recovered by calendar sales as set forth by the Board of Directors
approved motion."
