News of Import

Greetings to members of AISDiscuss.
Earlier this week I notified all officers, directors and committee
chairmen of the AIS Board of Directors that I had received a letter of resignation
from the position of Bulletin Editor from Bruce Filardi subsequent to the
completion of the April 2007 issue. I returned a letter accepting his
resignation with regret. In his letter, Bruce stated that if we could not find a
replacement in a timely manner, he would stay on an issue by issue basis until a
replacement was found.
Officers and Directors were mailed hard copies of both letters.
Administrative Officers and Committee Chairmen were offered hard copies of both
letters upon request. I extend that offer to those on the AISDiscuss list who
may also wish copies of the two letters.
Discussion has begun among the Officers and Directors, with the dominant
opinion being that the AIS invite "guest Editors" to take on one of the next
four issues of the AIS Bulletin -- July '07, Oct. '07, Jan. '08 and Apr. '08.
During this period, Terry Aitken will remain in position as Managing
Editor, Erica Bjerning will remain as Layout and Design Editor and Bridgeton
Printers will remain as our as our printing firm.
Many ideas will be examined as we proceed through the coming year. The
main thought is to develop job descriptions for the Editor and Managing
Editor positions, examine salaries and other costs, collect Board policy
measure that effect the Bulletin and the Editor's work and otherwise give careful
examination to things that can be done to improve the Bulletin.
There have been criticisms leveled and suggestions offered over the
years in regard to Bulletin publication. NOW is the time members of AISDiscuss
to offer comments, observations, and suggestions for consideration. This is
not a closed topic -- input is genuinely being sought.
The Bulletin is a fundamental part of AIS. Everything about it should
reflect its important relationship to all our members. AIS leaders should
speak out and offer their ideas.
     Let us hear from you!
          Jeanne
This email will be followed soon by an email setting out some of the ideas
presented so far, in hopes the ideas generated by the Board will stimulate
further participation from members of this forum.
