RE: Youth Protection Policy and E Memberships

Hi all,
As a mother of 8 active facebook users, two of which are current AIS Youth,
and I also am a user of facebook, I thought that I would chime in.
As Cheryl stated, she is worried about the possible violation of the Youth
Protection Policy via various facebook sites.
I'm not going to address the facts of the individual youth members having
their own facebook pages. That is the responisibility of them and their
parents.
BUT, if an affiliate or a Region has a facebook page and does show
pictures, list ages, and name the city where the youth live, in my opinion
that would violate the Youth Protection Policy. I have been surprized by what
information I have been able to see and obtain just by being friends with one
person. As an example, I have a facebook friend, Teresa, a gal I went to
high school with. Teresa is a facebook friend with her daughter Pam. Pam is
a facebook friend with Rachele, who is Pam's friend. When I log into my
facebook account, I can see all of the conversations that Teresa has with her
friends. I also see all of the information that Pam posts and also all of the
information that Rachele posts to facebook. With just me logging on, I see
lots of information that is passed along to others just because they have
facebook friends. If the affiliates and or regions post pictures and
information about the youth, as you can see, that information goes out in alot
of different directions, some of which could go to possible bad persons with
ill intent.

themselves as a youth and then I would not know it. Seems to me a bit silly
that if I did not know it then the SYkos you speak of would not know it
either. Nothing appears on these sites that is untoward or it will be deleted
alomg with the person who put something like that up. It seems we are trying
to invent problems that do not exist. It would be far more profitable to talk
about what are some good ways in which you use the internet with our youth
members.
