Cheryl wrote: We need to look into more than one option for storing the bulletin; There are already many options availble to people at Office Supply stores. As was mentioned earlier there are slip cases and three ring binders. These a can all be individually personalized by the person buying them. They do not make sense to sell through AIS because they would cost a great deal more for AIS to mail than what could be purchased locally. I have used all of these methids in the past. But the reason I suggested the binders is they look very classy on my bookshelf whereas to my mind the others look sort of makeshift. Since members can already do the other possibilities on their own it seemed reasonable to offer something first class for those of us who care enough about the AIS to want to save its history. I realize that is probably a very small minority. For that group they would probably want at least two as has been indicated to me by several people. That means it would only take 60 people out of our 4,000 members who have that level of interest to break even. I already have orders for 20 binders. I would not expect most affiliates to have even one person who is that interested in AIS to want to save and store the bulletin in this way. But even if there was only one person in one fourth of our affiliates than there would be enough.

I was not trying to burst anyone's bubble regarding the binders, but in this time of fiscal responsibility I do question spending money on something that I feel only a few would appreciate and purchase. It isn't as if we cannot go forward at a later date and reconsider this purchase when we might have better information about it. Since we just started with the new format, many members may not even think about storage until they have a year's worth or more of the Bulletin. As a member of the Median Iris Society I have received The Medianite for years and even though it is already has holes punched for ease of placing in a binder, I usually keep very few issues and give the others away to encourage growing medians. Just because another plant society does something doesn't mean we need to do the same. Why don't we take some time and look into more than one option for storing our Bulletins?

It sounds like the binders you had before were three hole types with holes punched in the magazines? My experience with the wire type is that once the binder is full it performs very much like a bound book. Slip cases are another way of doing something but generally one can get these generically at places like Office Depot. I have used those also, but they are not as elegant looking on a book shelf and since they are available on their own people could always find them and buy them. The slipcase is probably not as durable as these binders.

Has any other binder-type item been investigated? A gardening magazine I subscribe to offers a slipcase that holds one year (or 7 editions)...think of a box that holds a set of books or videos. A slipcase makes for a sturdier holder. The magazine in question used to sell binders, which I used to purchase, however after 4 I decided they didn't sit steadily on a bookself i.e. the binder kept opening as there was nothing to keep the front and back covers securely in place. Also, with the open top, the magazines get dusty and the uneven surface is a challenge to dust. A slipcase would have a flat surface and protect the bulletins from dust.

Depending on the price - I may purchase 2 or I might purchase 5.
If they are $20 each ---- 2 if they are $12-15 each 5.
Since I am not going to Madison, guess I would be paying postage from
Storefront.

P.S. I would be using them for other mags I have.
