Re: [Fwd: Calendars??]
OK, folks, we need to be careful here as to WHICH calendar we are
talking about and I think we are all on the same track so far.
The big (12" x 12") calendar is FREE. We (AIS) are supposed to get a
5% royalty on calendars sold at retail price of $14.95.
Turner Publishing prints it and ships it as they are ordered. AIS is not
involved other than we provide the pictures.
There is a "sort of" invitation on the back of BOTH Calendars and a good
reference to the AIS website. I can make it less subtle.
The little(6" x 9") traditional calendar, done by Olive Rice Waters,
is paid for up front by AIS. They are priced ,now, so that we will make
money even if they dont all sell. We do need to see how this progresses
this year. As I pointed out last fall, most of the cost of the little
calendars is setup charges . Reducing the quantity would not accomplish
much.
We are definitely targeting "outside of AIS" for the 12" x 12"
calendars and it sounds like Turner would like to take a shot at the
wholesale market. Again, at no cost to AIS. (there could be a question
of royalties in this situation.)
The storefront sells the 6" x 9" calendars primarily to AIS members .
The time invested is mine and I thoroughly enjoy doing this type of
promotion. The second one should be easier for everybody involved - me,
the publishing staff and the sales staff, now that they can see what we
can do. There were a "few potholes in the road" the first time out.
IRIS SUBJECTS. Avoiding subjects that are in the award system is a
good concept. (politics) My problem is that the pictures I take are
those plants. I only have 600 digital images to pick from. Perhaps I
could skirt the issue by only identifying the category? I can use photos
of medal winners where the opportunity presents itself.
Late calendars. Both projects were late last year and both
publishers would like to get started much earlier this year.
Thank you for the comments and keep them coming. I am listening very
carefully.
I will begin work on the calendars as soon as I get my catalog OFF my
desk - soon?
