The issue of placing chapters from the World Of Iris in my mind is more a strategic plan issue than a copyright issue and as such I think it appropriate to bring it to the full board. AIS owns the copyright and it is AIS using the material.
To me the underlying question is does AIS want to be the leading source of Iris information on the internet?
I have explained that the principle competitors for that title are Davebs Garden and All Things Plants (ATP). Presently the wiki leads both of them in numbers of people coming for Iris information. But ATP I am sure would like to challenge our prominent position and their theft of the Iris Register reinforces that view. Despite that loss, the wiki continues to grow by 36% over last year and if we can flesh out some of our topic areas with the material requested I believe its growth will continue to accelerate.
That said it is not my intent to circumvent any committee. I am requesting that my motion be tabled for a couple of weeks so that the IP committee can provide their consult to the board. I suppose I address that request to Bob Hollingworth, who I understand is the current chair.

The latest version of the AIS IP Policy document developed by the Ad Hoc committee consisting of:
Veronica Johnson
John Jones
Andi Rivarola
Janet Smith
Gerry Snyder
and, I believe, was the version presented to, and approved by, the AIS Board, says in Para II. B:
"To review all requests for use of AIS intellectual property, referring any especially sensitive issues to the AIS Board of Directors board; reporting all recommendations to the AIS Board of Directors;"
I believe my previous statement, while not an exact quotation, accurately reflected the intent of the recommendation.
Thanks
John

Case in point John Jones presented a request from the New Zealand iris Society at this Spring meeting. It did not go through the intellectual property committee but directly to the board.
