Re: Emembership
I would like to be clear about the situation:
I am sorry for the confusion and problems we are having. They are my fault certainly not Tom's.
The problems are not with the e-service per-se but with the enrollment process. I thought that the enrollment process had been properly implemented in its test mode some time ago and did not properly vet the process prior to making the announcement. I apologize. I had been concentration on getting the software pieces together to display the bulletins and BIC that I neglected to verify the enrollment process.
The issue is not as straight forward as some might like to think. It involves several different types of operating systems and security protocols. Architecturally, I understand it, but from a programming perspective it is beyond my skill level; which is why we are using Chris at Mallorn to do the implementation. Even for him there have been some significant challenges. We are woking on it, but we are only two. This process does not lend itself to collaborative development except in professional environments with lots of money.
I don't see in any of the motions implementing emembership a requirement for automatic renewal using PayPal. I will look into it after we get past the first implementation phase. Certainly a nice thing but hardly a show stopper. I would also want to know that the Membership Secretary would want that. There are record keeping things that he needs. We also don't do that for AIS paper memberships subscribed to through PayPal.
As to how fast the Daylily site responds. They are probably using an automatic system to generate IDs and passwords, require certain characteristics for passwords etc.. Then you have to have a system to regenerate passwords, confirm IDs send email to the address of record etc. Most big subscription sites have all that. All it takes is programmers, time, and money. It also takes some flexibility away from us like monitoring AIS membership for judges training requirements. Yeah we could probably figure out a way to get the information out of an automatic system but again - programming, time, and money.
I am not saying that we cannot or won't do that, but not now. If there is someone in our ranks that has the programming skills and is willing to donate their time I would love to move all our services onto one host. If you know of someone with that considerable skill set, please let me know.
Meanwhile, I have set up a temporary account ID: Temporary Password: Irises that anyone may use. To get to the emembers section go to the AIS website home page (http://www.irises.org) and click on the "Emembers" button on the right hand side just above our logo.
You will be able to access the online Bulletins and BIC. If you select Irisregister, you will be asked for the ID and PW again. That is just the way it is, at least for now. Don't bother commenting about it, we will get that eliminated when we can.

The one reason we made the Emembership for a year at a time was that PayPal offers an option to have the payment automatically renewed when it expires. Thus Three year memberships etc. are not necessary to have membership continue. It seems this choice was left off the PayPal.
