Robert Pries conveyed the words of John Ludi, thus:

(Order now, once the Storefront supply is depleted, this offer is void.)

I am confused.

Does this mean that the scheme announced by you, Robert Pries, to this
mailing list, the Iris-list, a public mailing list not associated formally with
AIS, on October 5 has been superseded by another plan?

We were told that orders, payable at $59.00 postage included for USA
addresses, would be accepted and filled in two installments. The first installment
was to be mailed out immediately following a purchase by AIS from the
publisher December 1, with no warranty of receipt before Christmas. The second was to
be announced to the membership in the January 2007 Bulletin, and scheduled
for an anticipated March 1 delivery.

How are AIS members who are not members of this mailing list supposed to
become aware of this special offer before receipt of the January 2007 Bulletin?
Announcing to this list does not constitute publishing an offer to the AIS
membership.

The publisher has already run a full color whole page ad in the Bulletin in
which the price of the book is stated to be $87.50, with contact information
provided. Are they referring AIS members back to the Storefront for the
special discount deal?

To comment upon the obvious, it might be well to consider the ramifications
of any AIS members, unaware of the Society's intent to offer a special price,
having made independent arrangements to purchase the book before receipt of
the January Bulletin, and paying the full price.

Then there is the possible ickiness of members responding to the January
offer in a timely manner only to discover they are out of luck because other
members, and selected members of the public who happen to be members of this
mailing list or any other to which the offer has been posted, knew about a
limited quantity deal two months earlier. I guess all these matters and similar
will have been fully considered from various angles.

So then, what are the current options for purchase of the Mahan book from
AIS?

Thank you.

Cordially,

Anner Whitehead
