RE: inquiry from CIS re: cooperating society WHY?

Please excuse my ignorance, but a couple of questions
should be asked but I am afraid the answers may be
difficult. First, Region 16 presently is all of
Canada. It would seem that a Canadian Iris Society
would be redundant. There is no USA Iris Society. Yet
apparently it seems we have both an AIS region and a
society covering the same turf. Should we disband the
region and make the CIS a cooperating society? Or is
there some purpose to having both? Personally I have
never viewed AIS as simply representing the USA and I
tend to resist efforts to limit it in that way. I have
even had thoughts that someday there might be an
Argentina region, or Mexican region of AIS. I think of
AIS as an international organization. But do Canadians
feel they are being overwhelmed by so many regions
based in the USA? Is the AIS ignoring some particular
concerns that are endemic to Canada? Iris are a global
hobby and I hope the society of Iris lovers will not
create barriers based on geography. We already have
enough problems with importation and exchange between
countries. Does the regional system of AIS need to be
revised? I have heard thoughts that Canada should
maybe be three regions since it is so big. Perhaps
there should be a region available in French. It seems
we need to listen carefully to Canadian sentiments to
understand how AIS could be serve Iris lovers in that
area.
