A March Message

Greetings:
It's nearly the end of March, and regardless of what the weather seems
to indicate -- by the numbers, it's spring!
This is my March "nag" to remind you to take note -- we are eight weeks
away from the beginning of the 2006 Portland Convention and five weeks away
from the requested turn-in date for Director's and Committee Chair's Spring
Meeting reports.
You know the message: we want to run a smoother than usual meeting
because we have many things to consider, discuss and iron out. We want to have
as much productive time as possible to do these things. If you have a
recommendation involving the work of your committee, be sure to put it into your
report so that it will get the necessary attention and action. I want everyone
to receive the attention needed to enable them to maintain or improve the
performance of their committee. But, I do not believe this requires reading
written reports.
Please write your reports and get them to Patricia Randall by or before
May 1.
Besides the budget (and all that entails), the specific points under
consideration in the JT Handbook revision, and a number of "housekeeping"
necessities, something I'd like to start being considered at the Spring Meeting is
the developement of a category I call "E-Memberships."
It will be a very new area for AIS. In our first consideration, it
will be extremely undefined, and undoubtedly it will be a very controversial
concept. Consequently, considering whether or not it is reasonable or feasable
will take much thought and serious work in making the decision whether to re
ject or to develope this concept. I feel it is important that we give the
concept of e-memberships consideration and debate time. It need not wait until
the Spring Meeting -- those of you on AIS-D can start debate on the subject
now, if you so desire.
I only ask -- Please send your reports to Patricia Randall by May 1 --
Please,
     Cheers!
          Jeanne
