Re: Electronic Voting -- how about for free?

Gerry, I've looked the program over and it works slick! Couple of questions:
Is this a canned program or can you make changes in it?

Rita,

Thanks for the kind words.

It is still very much in flux. The basics are there, and work, but much remains to be done.
1. How are the results stored? Does the Awards Chair have the individual
results by password?

The results are stored in a relational data base. As it is set up right now, any user can see the totals by clicking on a button. When next year's ballot is implemented for real, yes, the Awards Chair would be the only one with access to the results. The s/w would not be running on one of my PC's (as it is now) (presumably hosted by the same site as the rest of the AIS web pages). I would assign the AC a temporary password and after it was changed I would no longer have access to the data.

> 2, Who has to assign all the individual passwords for the 700+ judges?

John Jones had some thoughts in that area (which I cannot recall at the moment). It will take work, but we will come up with a workable plan.
3. Is each individual judge able to store his/her own vote?

Yes.
4. Can you do this for the TB Symposium-sure looks like it would be much
easier than what we currently have (would limit # of votes to 25) but what
prevents "multiple voting" since doing passwords for you couldn't possible do
invidividual passwords for the 4,000 members. We are still looking for a way
to greatly increase the pitiful participation in the TB Symposium.

Yes, web voting for the Symposium is very appealing. By next year we should be able to have something pretty good in place.

Also, I have been working on a web tallying system for the RVP's that could be used this year.
