Re: 2007 Photo Contest

Hello Kitty, Since the deadline for the Photo Contest has been moved forward by two months, this will cause difficulty particularly for those who live in the northern parts of the country. A lot of people still have irises in bloom, and they need time for cleaning up and maintaining their gardens. Many of us haven't had a chance to sort and select pictures. Once pictures are selected they must be edited, sent out to be printed, and finally packed and mailed. It seems to me that a June 30 due date is very tight. The entry form doesn't state how to identify each picture by category. What is your recommendation for making certain that pictures are entered in the right category? If there is no writing or labeling on the back of a photo, how can the people who are handling the photos match them to the number on the entry form and sort them by category? I don't know what you mean when you say that the pictures should be taken at 360 dpi or greater resolution. If a picture is intended for direct viewing by the judges, then the finished print should have a resolution of of approx. 300 dpi. What it takes to do that depends on your individual camera and the amount of cropping on the original image. Or are you planning to scan all the pictures first and have the judges view them on a monitor or projection screen?

Just a reminder note to you' all, about the AIS Photo Contest again.

We're into our 2nd season of the AIS Photo Contest. Last year's contest was fun, and I'm looking forward to getting more great pictures this year! Contest information and applications are on two web sites, www.irises.org and www.aisregion14.org. The deadline for the contest this year is moved up a bit, the deadline is June 30th. There are six categories, including photos with art effects. Winners will receive a new introduced iris and runner ups receive a 2005 or 2006 iris, thanks to Oklahoma Iris Society.

Please encourage the youth in your area to send in pictures this year as
well. I'm really hoping to get more youth participation this year.

Photos are already arriving, and I hope to see some of you send in photos as
well!
