Hello all,
This position has precedent in the past, last held by Terry Aitken. For the past three issues of IRISES and the next issue, guest editors have been and are providing professional services for the production of the publication. And, during each of the past three issues of IRISES, Jim has already been acting as the managing editor of the publication. The managing editor position will continue while we are utilizing the services of guest editors, and for a designated period after the appointment of a full time editor of IRISES. The managing editor will have oversight responsibility for the guest editors and manage the overall production of the bulletin.
To answer your questions Susan,
Yes, it is a compensated position. And, Yes, Jim will be able to vote on board actions. He will be holding this position, but also holds an officer position as Immediate Past President. This is not unlike the roles that John Jones holds in AIS in that respect. John is registrar, a paid position, and also is an AIS Director. As Director, John votes on issues before the AIS BOD.

Subject: RE: [AISdiscuss] Motion to approve Jim Morris as managing editor
Hi all,
This is a wonderful appointment, but, I have a few questions.
1. In the past we have had a Managing Editor, and it was a compensated position. Is this going to be a compensated position?
2. If it is a compensated position, since Jim will be getting paid, will Jim be able to vote on board actions since he does get to vote as the Immediate Past President?
Just a few things to ponder.
