Yes Social Media is part of PR and Marketing and Andi explained it very well. Unlike almost all other committees in AIS we have 4 members and I will be announcing a 5th shortly. We concentrate on keeping the large number of disparate activities of PR and Marketing coordinated so the impact is at its greatest. Our communication level within the group is very high. I speak with Susan almost daily and e-mails fly back and forth throughout each week with everyone. While Andi really has charge of social media he also has input into all our other projects and we into his. While I realize it is not practical or even possible for other chairs to invest the degree of time and energy our group puts in, I do believe communications are often weak and many tasks at risk if a person died. If I died tomorrow I have little doubt that everything could carry on without me since our team could easily step in to my fill my shoes.
Although under PR the Iris Encyclopedia has yet another crew, essentially 300+ people. I have been thinking about ways to divide up this work also. But there are individuals who have naturally and comfortably fallen into certain tasks. While the I.E.bs major role is a reference source it also has a promotional role that is a mirror of how public television works.
Public Relations must interact with every element of the Iris Society since anything we do, can and does has PR concerns. Often we are the eyes and ears of the organization acting as Ombudsman and/or Customer Service. We stand in the middle not only explaining policies to our members but encouraging the committees to fulfill there promises.

This is to confirm that Social Media is part of the AIS PR/Marketing
Committee -- Susan Grigg and Bob Pries are the co-coordinators.
Also, in many organizations, PR/Marketing is set to up to handle all of the
communications with the membership and the public.
Hope this helps.
