Re: Turner Publishing agreement

We have been on vacation. Here are George's comments on the calendar subject:

1) AIS calendars need to at least break even.
2) 10% from Turner is at least money in the bank.
3) I wouldn't buy a rose bulletin to read all their business. I would however buy one with articles and pictures on newer and future roses.
4) These should be items to discuss in Portland. I'm leaning towards all three ways.

Hi Jill
Since they control the presses, they can adjust the press runs to suit the orders. Not much inventory lying around. They dont seem to mind the idea of multiple runs. I am asking how long the prepublication 40% discount lasts.

They are supposed to get my approval for any fliers and I can insist that they include a statement to the effect that the membership list has not been sold. Not sure of the wording - but - can do.

I think the agreement is great with the caveat that we control the mailing list through the mailing service (re: flyers to the members)...When the member gets the flyer is there a way to let the member know that we have not sold the mailing list but that this is an AIS controlled mailing?

Thanks, Terry...Do you know approximately how many Turner will print in their initial print run?

Jill

Hi John and all.
When this came up last year, they (Turner) suggested that they would be happy to send the fliers to a mailing service of our choice (and that we control) and that they would reimburse us. I think that would satisfy "who controls the mailing list". The other part is -"do we want anybody sending fliers to our members? the junk mail theory"? This is a product that benefits AIS one way or another.
(We got around all of this last year by mailing fliers to the affiliates.)

I am ok with everything except the mailing to the members. I worry that we will be setting a precedent. I think we used to sell labels, but in the last 8 years or so I thought our policy was to not make the list available to anyone for commercial purposes.
