change subject line to Board Action of AIS DiscussJohn Jones has now fixed my "in-box" for AIS.org mail so I am just getting caught up on my reading of AIS Discuss posts.
Jim (and whole group), the below comments were posted on December 1st and I have seen NO RESPONSE to Jim's comment: (underlining is mine)
As an affiliate president I did receive Roy's letter yesterday about fixing the Exhibition Committee fiasco (Has AIS recovered the Exhibition supplies yet???). That letter will be read this weekend to three affiliates to which I belong. As an impatient Board member I had hoped that in this Christmas season of giving that I could ask these affiliates to donate to AIS to help offset our $14,000 deficit budget. But some AIS executive direction is needed first. >
Roy did send the letter to the Affiliate Presidents regarding new directions for the Exhibitions procedure but it was never posted on AIS Discuss or anywhere else. I have not seen the letter nor has anyone else unless he/she is an Affiliate President! I am assuming there will be a mention in the Jan Bulletin but in the meantime many of us who receive questions from the membership are still in the dark as to what is going on. This lack of communication and feedback impedes any possible progress resolving day-to-day issues.
As Jim Morris and Bob Pries keep pointing out, what good is it identifying issues, especially negative ones, if, as a Board, we produce no feedback nor a PLAN to resolve??? I do personally know Jill Bonino is working on a "Donations Request" letter to go to Affiliates, Sections etc. and it should be ready for release soon. Even tho the motion to implement PayPal for the Donations was approved at the AIS BOD meeting Fall 2008, it has not yet been implemented yet!! Some prompt "Executive Direction" needs to be the norm for these issues!!! AND more feedback from the "peanut gallery" of Board members, not just the usual verbal few like Bob, Jim, me and a VERY FEW others!!!

This is another service that AIS provides that members don't know we have... Perfect addition to the website. Jill Jill, And who is going to do it? Is the AIS volunteer Librarian even aware of this AIS Discuss commentary on Library inventory? Does the AIS Presidentrequest action of the Librarian and Electronic Services & Website chairman(with informational copies to the Board) or do we continue talking andtalking without any real action to get anything done? People like Bob Pries and Kitty Loberg have great ideas that need refining and action. AIS is w-a-ybehind the power curve in taking action rather than talking things todeath. I was at least encouraged at the Fall Board meeting that we the Board have awakened to the fact that we can't continue doing business as is or we will go broke -- within three years according to Bob but certainly very soonif we don't do something. I felt that our Board meeting was the mostproductive in the five years (10 meetings) I have been on the Board. Lots ofchanges, I just hope we can recover in time. I think we can and it is imperative that we try hard and smart! As an affiliate president I did receive Roy's letter yesterday about fixingthe Exhibition Committee fiasco (Has AIS recovered the Exhibition supplies yet???). But some AIS executive direction is needed first. I know I can deliver around $2,000 in donations but thisis a one-time quick fix. We need a long range solution. Now I sound like Keith Keppel. We never discussed his 15 March 1997 memo on Cost Reductionand Revenue Sharing that was in our packet of "information" and I justdiscovered it. He was and is right on when he said, "I find it far preferableplaying doctor, examining an ailing patient than coroner, exhuming a dead body."
