Re: Website design/ais foundation
I echo these comments. Recent AIS discussion/motions and Foundation
participation related to iris research and funding shows how the two
organizations can work together to fund quality iris research. I agree with
Bob Hollingworth that this process could be streamlined and more formally
integrated. As a start, you may know that the Scientific Advisory
Committee has been reviewing grant proposals not only for the AIS, but for the
AIS Foundation as well, during the past three years. Building on these
collaborations will improve the effectiveness of both organizations. So, it
seems to me that the time is right for these two organizations to move to the
next step in collaboration on important mutual interests such as iris research
and library funding. Recognition of the Foundation on the AIS website
certainly would be beneficial, and including the AIS Foundation in any
discussion or articles about fundraising for these projects would also
be appropriate. I am an AIS Director and am also now the
Secretary/Treasurer of the AIS Foundation, and am obviously very much in favor
of increased communication and collaboration on mutual goals and interests.
Thanks much,
Gary White

Bob -- from the Foundation's viewpoint it would be helpful and
appropriate to have some mention on the AIS website. At the least a
link to our website would be appreciated. In particular it is often
confusing for newcomers to discover that both AIS and the Foundation
fund research on irises independently. We have done a much better job
of coordinating that recently, but it still seems that we could
develop a joint application and funding system that would help
eliminate confusion entirely. The planning and operation of the
memorial library activity based on the DuBose funding is another area
where coordinated communication and action is obviously necessary. We
need to start addressing that soon. Thanks for thinking of us! Bob
Hollingworth
