RE: Shipping irises to Canada for the 2011 Convention

Hi Brad,
Beardless irises are being sent to a 'collection point' in Seattle this
year, to be picked up by people in Victoria and hand carried across the
border (to avoid delays in customs). However, these beardless irises will be
sent by the hybridizers with the applicable phytosanitary certificates for
shipping to Canada. These shipments will not be opened in Seattle, but hand
carried through customs with the proper phyto-certificate attached.

If the hybridizers prefer to send directly to Victoria, Canada, they can do
so, again with the necessary phyto-certificates for shipping to Canada.

Phyto-certs have to be issued by the state inspector, after inspection of
the plants in the garden from which they are dug. Inspectors in other states
can't certifiy irises dug from a garden in a different state.

Bearded iris guests will not be requested until 2009 for 2011.

I was aware of the US Shipping address, but are we planning on smuggling
them into Canada without the proper Pytosanitary certificates or has the
State of Washington agreed to issue the necessary P. Certs. based on just
dug rhizomes?

  I believe that arrangements have been made.  There is a U.S. shipping
address as well as a Canadian address to receive rhizomes.

item I believe needs to be discussed. Has anyone consider that some

Canada? OR is Utah the only state that refuses to issue them?
