Jack E. Norrick, 85
MUNCIE - Jack E. Norrick, 85, of Muncie passed away at his home on Monday,
April 16, 2007 after an extended illness. He was born on May 17, 1921 in
Kokomo, IN, the son of Robert W. and Besse A. (Innis). Norrick. He attended a
number of schools in Hamilton, Tipton and Delaware counties and graduated from
Eaton High School in 1938 where he received a scholarship to attend Purdue
University.
Instead of attending college, Jack worked at several local factories and the
Muncie Tree Surgery before joining the US Army during WWII.
After returning from the war, Jack met and married Glenda Mae Brothers on
November 2, 1946. He later worked at Warner Gear/Borg Warner, Muncie, for 36
years and retired from there in 1983 as a production supervisor.
Jack pitched for many local baseball teams and used his knowledge of
baseball to help found the Eaton Baseball Assoc. and build the baseball
facilities there where he also coached several Little League and Pony Leagued
teams.
Jack was an accomplished iris hybridizer and introduced several well known,
award winning iris including one named Bumblebee Deelite He belonged to the
American Iris Society, the Iris Growers of Eastern Indiana, and several other
iris groups in Indiana and Ohio as well as Master Gardeners in Delaware and
Hamilton Counties. He was also a long time member of American Legion Post 90,
Eaton.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Glenda M.
Norrick; his youngest brother, Richard (Dick) and his parents, Robert and
Besse Norrick.
Jack is survived by his brother, Robert (wife Vernice) Norrick and sister
Jane Huffman (husband William) of Eaton and his sister-in-law, Sue Norrick of
Gaston. He is also survived by his children David Norrick (wife, Joyce), Cindy
Turner (husband, Jeff) and Barbara Norrick of Muncie and Karen Jones (husband,
Phil) of Franklin, TN. He is also survived by four grandchildren, 2 step
grandchildren and four great grandchildren which were the delights of his
life. Their names are Chelsea Turner, Jason Norrick and Kurt Green of Muncie,
Logan Angus of Angola, Amy Jones, Doug Jones (wife Anna), Sebastian, Ian and
Ryan Jones of Franklin, TN, Eric Green (wife Kim) and Brayden Green of Port
Orchard, Washington.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 20, 2007 at
Pitman-Richman Funeral Home in Eaton with Paster Dave Mantor officiating.
Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Red Door of Muncie, the
American Iris Society and to the Ball Memorial Hospice of Muncie.
