Re: JT Handbook Revisions
I have waited for a while before putting my two cents in but Brad's suggestion is lined up with my thoughts also. First do not separate show from garden judging. They need to remain just as they are. We are to be judges of both and that is the reason for the increased focus on garden judging. We do not need to make it more complicated and the paperwork to keep it separated would be monumental for the Judges' Training Chairman in each region. If the board decides we are not having enough garden judging just require a certain number of hours. Judges should be growing (or have grown) enough iris to determine good garden iris and the additional "required" garden training will review that.
I would suggest we keep things pretty much the way they are and let the text in the handbook tell the story of what each judging designation requires. I would like to see the following names. No initials please except on the AIS Judges chairman list. We already have too many initials to explain in the world as it is.
Student Judge
Apprentice Judge
Iris Judge
Master Judge
Retired Master Judge
I put the "Judge" with each one to indicate that this person has certainly put forth some effort to become one and should be honored with that name.
Thanks for considering this.
Carolyn Hawkins, RVP Region 5 and finally a Master Judge
