Re: AIS Photo Contest, award rhizomes, shipping overseas

Greetings:
My Email has been down for what seems like forever, but really wasn't -- anyway it has now been "rejuvenated." I definitely like Jill's suggestion. I think a choice is a for more interesting "win." Personally, (if I were a photo contest winner) I would opt for the iris. Since chances are that the individual is already a member (and is likely to return as a member since he/she has just been a contest winner) having the "iris-of-my-choice" option is a much more appealing concept. I also agree with Jill that the order should be limited to a specific amount (such as $30).
   Cheers!

Hi Kitty,

I like both choices---choice #1 to let them order an iris to be shipped to them with AIS paying the bill--or choice #2 we give them a one-yr membership to AIS or a one-year extension. A one-year overseas membership is $30 and the shipping/phyto (if we do it) could be that much...However, if we let the winner order their own rhizome it could be more than that...

If the winner decided to order their own rhizome could we limit the order to $30 US Dollars?

Jill

Hi Kitty,

I like the idea of an AIS membership or the extension of AIS membership for 1 year. Speaking for the KC Convention committee, shipping overseas is not
something we could do easily.

Kitty, I also wonder if a one year Membership in AIS (or a one year extension of their current membership) would be an acceptable substitute for a rhizome,
considering the cost of the iris Phyto and shipping?

Hi Kitty
Unfortunately, we just did our last shipment to Spain on Friday. Overseas
shipping is about done for the year.
Inspection certificates vary a lot in price. Our run $20 to $30 each when we batch them at least 10 orders at a time. Shipping is very expensive on top
of that.
Getting reimbursed for an iris in their home country is a very good idea.

Re: AIS Photo Contest, award rhizomes

Hi everyone,

A unique problem has arisen this year. One of the Runner Up winners is

from Spain. The problem/issue is about shipping a rhizome overseas. What is involved? Is it something Kansas City (Convention hosts) can handle
easily?
(I'm afraid this might not be easy.)

I had someone from Canada ask me this earlier, as they were concerned about a 'phytosanitary certificate' for shipping to Canada if they won.

An idea I had, was to offer the Runner Up winner an alternative of selecting a 2007 or 2008 introduced iris which they would order in their own

country. With this alternative, AIS would not ha
ve to occur overseas or
intercontinental shipping, or whatever certifications might be required. AIS could reimburse the Runner Up winner when an invoice was submitted to
AIS.

Please advise me with some good ideas on how to handle this unique
probl
em/issue this year.

Thanks.
