RE: Pictures

Hi Bob
I found the Wiki interesting.
I happen to agree with a need for multiple photographers.
This spring, I returned home from the National Convention with about 400
photos on my digital camera. About a week or two later, my camera was stolen
complete with all convention shots. Rita Gormley put out a call for help and
several sets of pictures came in. Also, fortunately, Kelly Norris and I went
through every garden as if we were writing each one up ourselves. The glitch
in this system is that the actual garden writer may come through the garden
on an entirely different day and see different irises. We do what we can and
we do get help. We (Kelly and I) do take note of other "good" photographers
who are on the tour. "Good" also means equipment - large digital cameras
that take high resolution images. Bulletin covers don't come easily!
Somewhere down the road, I would also anticipate a need to borrow pictures
from the Wiki. How big a problem is this sizing and are there any options?
This is just speculation on my part. Listing the photographer as a resource
could be very helpful and probably solves the problem.
Having a reference library of pictures is highly beneficial for the society.
Now, how much can we charge for access? (I am thinking in terms of AIS
membership, a benefit for AIS members?) Join AIS!
Terry

I will confirm what Janet and Jim have said in that there never seems to be
enough good photos for the myriad of projects in AIS. Perhaps this post
should be restored. As the website improves, I can forsee an even greater
demand. It seems we often discover we needed more photographers after the
fact. Assigning a team of photographers for certain events could be
beneficial and finding ways of storing the shots is important. May I suggest
the new Iris wiki. Its only defect is the pictures are all small and not
dense.

I am sorry for the loss!

As to the "official photographer" and "no longer had relevance and
was discontinued"!

The AIS Slides and Digital Programs Chair says there is a relavance
to the need of photographers for the different garden tours.

Without them you don't get a Convention Program! Or any other
program for that matter.
