Chapter 22

Hi Claire and all, below are some changes I think should be made for clarification.

OLD:
Definition: HIPS (Historic Iris Preservation Society) defines “historic” irises as those introduced thirty (30) or more years ago. For irises that were never introduced, the date of registration should be used.

NEW:
Definition: HIPS (Historic Iris Preservation Society) defines “historic” irises as those introduced thirty (30) or more years ago. In determining the thirty years for exhibiting historic irises that the year of introduction is not known, the date of registration should be used.

Reason:  Many historics although introduced do not have an introduction date documented; and this clarifies how to determine an iris for exhibition as a historic.

OLD:
Entry tags must clearly state the cultivar’s year of introduction. If no introduction date can be found, the year of registration may be used.

NEW:
For irises exhibited in the historic section, entry tags must clearly state the cultivar’s year of introduction. If no introduction date can be found, the year of registration may be used.

Reason:  If a historic iris is exhibited in other than the historic section, as noted in the previous paragraph, the date is not required.

Thanks, Doug
