'Conjuration' winner of both Wister and Dykes Medals in 1998???

In copy preparation for the AIS 2020 Centennial publicationB The Magnificent
World of Irises, theB subject of 'Conjuration' winning both the Wister
(although in second place) and the Dykes medal in the same year of 1998 came
up.B  I have asked the president at the time, 1st VP, editor and Awards
chairman about the circumstances and background behind this odd event without
success or even response.B  Does anyone know?B  It is germane to one of the
articles I am editing.B  Thank you.
