Plicata, Bi-tone, self are color classifications and not particularly novel. There is a chapter in the Judges handbook on judging Novelties and it has been there as long as I can remember. The formation of of the Novelty Iris Society is independent of the Handbook although presumably they would have a role in making suggestions for any update. Show schedules can be designed by a club to meet the needs of the particular club. All sorts of categories can be created, they need only to follow the guidelines to keep them fair and honest. And the schedules are approved based on those guidelines. If you want a list of things that have been considered novelties try looking on the novelty section of the Iris Encyclopedia.

Okay - what do you put in Novelty that the judges would judge?
We already have categories for: Plicata, Space Age, Self,
Bi-Tone/Bi-Color.
