I like the idea of “AIS member discount”. From
the storefront?
I’ve been trying to figure out how to do
an “AIS member discount” thru my catalog but it means checking each membership?
There’s got to be an easier way.

regarding purchase of Magazine Binders
All good questions, hope to have some
answers soon. I do like the idea of preorders. I suspect the first hundred
could go quickly but I am just guessing that the last might be around for
awhile. Since the Market would indicate a value of these to be $20 each I would
suggest pricing them at that, and if we wanted to give a discount for
preorders, or for members, or for the first year, whatever, we could do that.
But establishing what they are normally worth is important. I would
suggest that if we have a reasonable price we could pay for a large part of the
purchase immediately. Establishing a price is tricky because you want it fair
but still making some profit.

I'm all in favor of these binders, and thanks to Bob
for obtaining the info and a bid.
I do think we need to have these in the Storefront
before the convention.
1) Is there a shipping charge from this
company to the AIS Storefront, or is shipping included?
2) Is there an estimate of mailing charge from the
Storefront to individual purchasers?
3) Does the Storefront have sufficient storage space
for 200 binders initially?
4) Would it be possible to take pre-orders once
we have a firm price that includes mailing, so that part of the
investment in the first shipment of binders is quickly replaced, and
number kept on hand reduced? Or is that more trouble than its
worth?

Magazine Binders
I surfed the internet for magazine binders and all the publishers I found
offering these get them from the same source and are very satisfied with that
company. That firm, Rogers Looseleaf provided me with a bid for 200
binders. They would be dark blue with gold printing saying: The American Iris
Society, Quarterly Bulletin and the insignia of AIS printed on the spine. There
would be a one time charge of $150 for creating the dye. Each unit cost would
be $5.45. If we desire cardboard shipping boxes individually packed they are
an additional $0.85 each
It is true that we have a budget crunch. But we have also put into place
measures to compensate. We will only increase membership by providing the
services expected of a 21st century organization. Efforts are being made to
get us there. It is true this is a minor issue. But then again if we can not
offer services like this for fear of loosing money than what products can we
sell that can bring in money? I believe this is a modest investment in
inventory and could potential make a few bucks.

Ok, would somebody stick a dollar sign on these things?
Are there options?
I'm sure that quantity plays a role.
Yes, we have to charge enough to get us out of trouble quickly.

Bob Pries moved and Rita Gormley seconded the below motion. As such, it
is now open for discussion.
"That AIS offer Magazine binders for the bulletin."
