Several years ago in order for convention committee's to save some money, I purchased a laptop and a digital projector, the same model as the AIS projector, and have been furnishing them to the convention committees for the sections to do their programs. I also have been using my Kodak slide projector in cases when we need it. This last convention in Ontario was the first convention where we did not use a slide projector. To rent any of these types of equipment through the hotel would cost the convention committee some additional money in expenses. The only thing we rent through the hotel is the projection screens, a projection table or cart with an extension cord, all of the microphones we use, if requested the Internet connection for the meeting room, and also any other type of a/v equipment requested by the section or cooperating society so their programs can be presented. We do have some folks who will either bring their own laptop or projector and in some cases bo!
th. Most of the time, the convention committee has to furnish some type of equipment for the meetings. If we have to have assistance from the hotel a/v department, we have to pay for their services too. All of this is goes into the budget to determine the convention registration fee.

Cheryl, not sure why you're bringing up whether being a volunteer is a
choice or not. Not sure I understand your point.
In any case this issue moves forward and to bring more information about
the issue of *proving equipment to key volunteers*, I'd like to provide my
experience on this.
Providing key volunteers with assistance is not unique to AIS.
I work for a non-profit and we provide equipment (including computers,
printers, walkie-talkies and cell phones) for key volunteers, on a
permanent basis.
Also, at my church we provide equipment to key volunteers too.
It's a way to being more responsible with finances, as a *full time employee
* would cost the organization much more than *a full time volunteer *does,
even after including the equipment cost.
Hope this helps.
