RE: AIS Silent Auction - your thoughts on this please

Excuse my tardiness in replying to this discussion item. My thoughts are
that having this wonderful item in our silent auction would be awesome. I
think all proceeds should go to the Aril Society. However, I would like to
say that is; if they can do several things.
1.	Arrange to have a volunteer present at all times to handle questions
and viewing (handling) this treasure. (Well I'm an ASI member but hopefully
someone with more knowledge that me)
2.	Take care of all the signage, such as a sign that says proceeds will
go to Aril Society International (I can include it on my spreadsheet and
keep up with the paperwork for them)
3.	Prepare the display that will be in the auction room, including all
the info about the treasure.
4.	Come up with the minimum and/or reserve bids.
5.	Perhaps, do a little advertising (flyers, posters, etc) that it is
going to be in the AIS silent auction room.
I really don't think there will be a problem of becoming a precedence for
all the other sections (cooperating societies), but I am willing to do the
same for any of them that have a really wonderful treasure like this one. I
think it might even get more people to come into our silent auction to look.

Subject: [AISdiscuss] AIS Silent Auction - your thoughts on this please

The Aril Society has received a bequest of a copy of a 1913 edition of The
Genus Iris to be for auctioned for the purpose of proceeds benefiting that
society.

Since the ideal venue for it to be auctioned is at our silent auction held
in conjunction with the spring convention, we have received an inquiry from
the Aril Society regarding placing this item in this year's silent auction
and asking whether it would be feasible for the society to receive all or
part of the proceeds.

Historically proceeds from all items donated and sold at these auctions
accrue to AIS. However, in researching whether there is a written AIS
policy regarding sharing proceeds from auction sales, we find that no such
policy exists.

Because of the unique nature of this request, I would like to hear your
thoughts on this request. Several current and former board members who were
contacted while researching this subject thought that as a courtesy to a
cooperating society AIS should allow the Aril Society to receive all of the
proceeds on this item.

As doing so would require Board action, I would like to hear the thoughts of
others and would entertain a motion that could be used as the basis of
developing policy on this type of request.
