Re: 100th Anniversary Logo-----

Bob,

Thank you for pointing out I was not the chair for the 100th Anniversary Celebration Committee.  I was able to sign a contract with the Marriott Hotel in Newark, NJ and with re visiting the contract in 2017.

I would also like to suggest maybe key chains, plates with a plate stand, refrigerator magnets, and maybe a ball cap.

Paul

The 100th Anniversary Celebration Committee was started as a subcommittee under the PR Committee. As Chair of PR I started this committee with myself as chair. I have asked various people to form working groups as needed. Paul Gossett of course was in charge of the working group for the convention. Andi has been leading the working group for the logo and certain activities. Mainly I have drawn from people that are working in the PR committee to take the lead on certain tasks. Eileen Secrest is looking into the commemorative postage stamp. I have been gathering information for the text and images for the 100th Anniversary publication. As the need arises I ask various people to help with various assignments. It is still early. I have asked someone whose club already does T-shirts printed on demand to assemble the information she has for Hoodies and T-shirts. I have asked about this a week ago but did not indicate any rush since it is still along way off and AIS does not even have a working shopping cart to sell stuff presently. I am happy to hear recommendations and would be delighted to have volunteers for other tasks.  Presently I have communicated with only one silver smith about minting the 100 Anniversary coins.

Dave, sorry that you feel "not kept informed."

As far as I know Paul Gossett is the Chairman of the 2020 Centennial Committee. The Committee is still forming, and I'm sure as soon as things are a little more organized Paul or someone else will make an announcement.

There will be a need for many, many contributors, volunteers and people in the know about AIS historic facts and events, so stay tuned for upcoming information and requests for help.

For general (my)  information-----has a roster of the members of the 2020 Centennial Committee been made public. I’m asking this question because early last year (2014) I was asked if I would be willing to serve on such a committee. I indicated that I would be pleased to serve and have received nothing in any form as to who the committee members are or who is in the Chair or anything else as to the activities of the committee until this discussion was begun by Jill. Obviously there has been committee activity so who else, besides me, was not kept informed?

"All entries shall become the property of the American Iris Society". If that statement was made at the onset there would be no need now for this discussion. And there would be no need for all this post acceptance activity. The artist, then, would  have either accepted the “rule” and submitted an entry or rejected it and moved on.

No, we have not inserted such statement, and I'm not sure that it would have been enough to deter any challenges. The idea has been that we would have the winning artist sign a Release. I'm working with our Legal Advisor, Veronica Johnson (and President, Gary White) to procure any necessary forms. In any case, a Release Agreement that needs filling out and signed by the logo creator is in the works. Or, Veronica may decide that something else is in order. We'll follow her advice, of course. Once all the paperwork is in order we will be able to use the logo for all kinds of purposes.

The 2020 Centennial Committee has still to decide which items will be produced and when. If many clubs and/or individuals are interested in getting hold of some these items at a specific timeframe please let it be known so that we all know that there's an interest. Of course consider that we're still five years away. Thank you all. If you have any feedback or ideas, we'd like to receive them via the email we have set up for this purpose: ais2020centennial@gmail.com

Hope this clarifies this issue.

Note: So glad to hear that we may stirred some interest in the Centennial activities for many iris lovers from around the country and overseas. I'm hearing from people that are planning to attend the Centennial Convention from very far away.

Well of course I agree also.  I just don't know if the committee did so.  Andi?

If this artist was chosen for her art to be used for the 100th Anniversary
there should have been a form or agreement made to be able to use this logo
wherever AIS deemed usable.  So Mr. Morris you would not need to ask the
artist to use the logo for, cups, totes, aprons, shirts or anything else
for sale for the 2020 Convention.

I think affiliates would jump in to purchase for this.
