I remember at the Seattle AIS Convention in 1984, I was on the same bus with Steve and his wife. We had stopped at a race track for lunch and when the bus was loading to go onto the next garden, Steve was no where to be found. His wife said leave him. He knows what time we were supposed to be on the bus...leave him. After a while of looking, we left him and another bus picked him up.

Steve also hybridized peonies and iris and continued his hobby/passion well into his nineties.
