In regards to digitalizing the library, work in essence has already begun. The AIS bulletins are being digitalized by an outside firm hired by John Jones so they can be put on to the new EMembers site. Images are being scanned by Janet Smith and are being displayed in programs and on the Iris Encyclopedia, and HIPS has been active through the efforts of Mike Unser in getting many old catalogs and stuff onto their site. Although There is no coordinated plan, exactly, much has been started, and the prospects look very promising. I have several people who have contacted me or Janet who are interested in donating old catalogs, images, etc. These are processed and put onto the webareas mentioned and the originals archived in the library. If you have or know of materials that could add to our collection, feel free to contact me and I will help connect you to someone who is digitalizing materials and see that that the materials are digitally accessible and archived in the library. When an AIS member dies their materials need not be trashed. I will try to get them processed with the help of members within that area.

Bob, Judy and everyone,
Thank you for providing this crucial information about digitizing the AIS
Library using funds provided by the AIS Foundation.
It makes so much sense to start moving in this direction.
This would mean a very worth while goal:* worldwide unlimited access to
library resources 24/7*.
It seems that digitization should take center stage in this project, and as
a main result we may find that many more people could actually use the AIS
Library (besides the obvious: preservation forever of all AIS materials).
Here's a company that provides digitization services, and which goal is
also social responsibility:
*
Digital Divide Data*
"When choosing DDD, our clients make a decision that benefits both their
company and the world. DDD delivers world-class, competitively priced
digitization and IT services to clients across the globe. We recruit staff
from disadvantaged backgrounds in the countries where we operate (add link
to new page in About Us). We provide jobs, education, and marketable skills
to help them overcome poverty and achieve upward mobility.."

I don't know anyone in this company but they do provide a list of very
important clients. Anyways, I'm not endorsing this company just showing an
example of what is possible to do today.
