RE: Motion regarding foreign registrations
Okay, here goes. I do not agree that we should be refunding a portion of the
registration fee that goes to the AIS Registrar/Recorder to any of the foreign
Associate Registrars BECAUSE as the worldwide registrar of all things iris,
any registration should be presented to the AIS Registrar/Recorder as
complete; which means researched, as to name, description ready to go straight
to the R&I, spellchecked, and payment in full, so that the AIS
Registrar/Recorder can verify that the name is available (with AIS Register
and online e memberships, etc. this will be a moot point) and accept the
registration. Soon this will also encompass digital images of the flower.
Of course on occasion there will be little glitches, but all in all, this is
what should be.
Not knowing what services each foreign Associate Registrar performs makes this
difficult, but I am aware that in most cases, the foreign Associate registrar
is doing the translating of the registration into English, and then sending
the registration to the AIS Registrar/Recorder, and paying the international
postage for first class mail. This is a valuable service.
Now to examine the case of Michele Bersillon, unless the French Iris Society
requires her to have her registrations translated into French, I do not see
what the additional fee that she pays is for(because she is a US National, her
case is very different). Likewise for the Australian and New Zealand
hybridizers, $6 per registration is a lot for just mailing in a bunch of
forms. I will contact a few of the foreign hybridizers to find out just what
their Associate Registrars do for the fee. If it is stuffing them into an
international envelope and sending it on the the US, then I want to apply for
the job!
