Re: AIS Strategic Plan - Tentative Mission Statement

On reexamination, "appreciation" may sound a little too bit "touchy-feeley" for the IRS.? Could you substitute, or add, something to the effect of "establishing criteria for judging" irises?

I do not disagree with Roy's?observation that scientifc aspects?could use?strengthing. Also, it wouldn't hurt to?work in?"youth" someplace.

What the IRS is looking for is how are the principal purposes of the AIS, as a non-profit public benefit scientific and educational charitable organization different from that of a non-profit mutual benefit horticultural organization, deductions to which for the latter?are not allowed?as a set off against adjusted gross income for purposes of income taxation.?

Gary,

OK by me as compatible with maintaining 501(c)(3) status.

Subject: [AISdiscuss] AIS Strategic Plan - Tentative Mission Statement

Greetings,

The Strategic Plan committee proposes the following tentative or working
Mission Statement for the American Iris Society:

"The mission of the American Iris Society is to provide the gardening
community a network for the education and exchange of information about
irises, their appreciation, conservation, registration, culture and science."

At the end of the strategic planning process, the mission statement will be
revisited and adjusted if indicated.

Comments?

Regards,
Gary White
for the Strategic Plan ad hoc committee
