Re: Ackerman?

Debbie,

This was named in honor of Jay Ackerman (1901-1983), former treasurer of
AIS from 1960-1976. He received the AIS Distinguished Service Medal in 1964
and the AIS Gold Medal in 1976. His daughter (last name Thrum) donated
$1,000 to start the Ackerman Award. I don't remember the year it started.
Perhaps Cheryl does as Youth Chairman.

Hello to all!

Hope this near fall is treating you all great.

Can anyone tell me the history of the reason the AIS Youth Contest is
named the "Ackerman" Essay Contest?

I found a couple of hybridizers named Ackerman...William and Marion, but
can't find much history or info on either of them.

Thanks so much for your time and info.

Sincerely,
Debbie
