Re: Error on the award winner list

Robert,

I did not mean to find fault with the information on the wiki. You achieved a great deal in a short time. And believe me, I know how many errors creep in when doing things manually.

The only way I can think of to improve the process for future years (unless you and I can figure out a format I can use for the data I send you that reduces the amount of retyping needed) is to plan the announcement for a period when Lunar Pages is not having problems.

I can appreciate all the hard work involved since I have to retype the whole thing to place onto the wiki ,plus tons of formatting and images. Thank you for your work as awards chair. We agree that it would be released at noon CDT on Thursday provided Jim had reached medal winners. Because John sent a message that Lunar Services (our website host) was having problems I thought it wise to include your pdf onto the wiki. Normally I have a link to the website, but this time I placed the pdf onto the wiki itself. News & Notes still attempted to link to the website but as feared it was not there. It only took me about 2 minutes to display your pdf as awards chair. If I had access to the website I could have done likewise. Since I could not view the display on the wiki without the world seeing it, I did not put that up until about 20 minutes before the time and then frantically tried to fix any errors that I could see. Unfortunately I had to leave for a doctors appointment after that (when N&N came out) and as soon as I returned I fixed all the errors that people noticed. If anyone has suggestions as to how this process could be improved I welcome suggestions.

Hopefully the gallery on the wiki will continue to expand such that all award winners will be pictured. Everyone can help by sending better images of those that do not have images or have few to choose from. For the galleries, images that are roughly square work best. Obviously in the short time period of three days there is limited work that could be done and certainly I would like to see more. But I get limited feedback, in that only a few people privately have said they appreciate all of this work. Most of the time I have to depend on my own notion of what I would like to see. Certainly the few people that have expressed what they would like to see have been rewarded with that result.

As with anything down by man, there will be errors. We find errors on the wiki and they are corrected. But this constant revisiting entries has discovered errors in the Iris Register , the website, and many other sources. THERE IS NOTHING PERFECT. We can only strive for perfection. I thank all of those who reported problems. I may have answered rather briefly because I was anxious to fix them. As for those news blasts on Facebook, everyone knows that the fastest news is not always the most accurate.

Isn't the official information the PDF list from the Awards Chair posted on the AIS Web site?

It needs to be known or we would not be able to correct anything. If
Susan was not to mention it here - where are we to learn we
downloaded the wrong information????? Remember it is all over
FACEBOOK and they don't know it is wrong!
