Subject: Re: [AISdiscuss] Web Page Redesign

I would not reccommend modeling our site after one of the sites I had in mind,
but one was Dave's Garden. At present one can google a large number of Iris
cultivars and this is one of the sites that comes up most of the time. Also if
one is googling various Iris types the same thing happens. As I have mentioned
before this site and a number of others have been starting up, that try to
cover all plants not just Iris. If we are to have credibility as a go to
source for Iris information, we must have better and more information on Iris
than sites that try to do everything. If we get the wiki running and populated
we will create a information base that is more authoritative and complete than
these general plant sites, Wikipedia is another example. If we create only an
also ran, than we will not be a serious contender for an information source.
At present information is the greatest value AIS has to offer. It resides
mostly in our membership's knowledge. If we can tap and make accessible what
we know, and reward our members by acknowledging their photos, knowledge and
interest, we have a winning game and will start increasing our membership. If
we defer our potential to other sites we will continue to fade from existence.
Sorry for the soapbox.

Bob,

Have you mentioned these sites before? I would like to look at them.

Thx

John
